About This Course

The main objective of Biostatistics is to make the students familiar with the basic concepts and tools of Statistics. Attempts will be made to provide a clear and concise understanding of the fundamental features and methods of statistics along with relevant interpretations and applications. This course demonstrates to students how simple statistical tools can help analyses a wide range of problems in the field of life sciences.

Learning Outcome

Students who successfully complete this course should be able to:

  • CLO1: Develop basic statistical concepts commonly used in biological Sciences.
  • CLO2: Recognize the importance of data collection and its role in determining scope of statistical inference of life science data.
  • CLO3: Formulate and predict various statistical methods for analysis and interpreting statistical results correctly, effectively, and in context.
  • CLO4: Comprehend the theoretical foundations that leads to choosing the appropriate analysis (i.e. estimation, hypothesis testing).
  • CLO5: Understand statistical software to analyse life science data sets.
  • CLO6: Apply the above knowledge to solve basic problems in filtering, prediction and smoothing to draw conclusions from real-life scenarios.
