About This Course

The course incorporates fundamental techniques of mathematics and statistics for managerial decision-making. Major topics includes equations and inequalities, indices and surds, basic coordinate geometry with emphasis on linear functions; laws of statistical analyses, recording and presentation of data, measures of central tendency and dispersion, correlation and regression, basic trend analysis, probability and probability distribution.

Learning Objectives

1. To introduce mathematical concepts and techniques and learning how to apply these techniques in management and economics.
2. To equip the learners with a statistical tool kit which will enable them to apply their knowledge and skills to real world tasks
3. To provide an introduction to descriptive statistics necessary for the subsequent study of specialized courses in business studies.
4. To provide an introduction to descriptive statistics necessary for the subsequent study of specialized courses in business studies.
5. To deliver a deep understanding of the statistical data analysis and their practical uses in managerial decision-making.

Intended Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the students should be able to:

1. Knowledge and technical competence A.the ability to use fundamental and applied mathematical and statistical knowledge B.the ability to use computational tools in a suitable and pertinent way.
2. Problem-solving A. a comprehension of the balance between the difficulty and correctness of the mathematical and statistical models used, and the equitability of the delivery of the solution. B. an ability to amalgam knowledge and compliantly apply to characterise, analyse and solve a wide range of problems.
3. Personal and professional awareness A. the ability to contextualise outputs where data are drawn from diverse and evolving social, political and cultural dimensions B. the ability to apply the principles of lifelong learning to any new challenges.
