This course in physics is designed to impart knowledge about the different topics of physics, specially mechanics, properties of matter, heat and temperature, waves and oscillations, sound, optics, electricity, modern physics and astronomy. It is intended that the students taking this course who are mostly non-science and non-engineering students will have a fairly wide overview of the subject without having to go into more details and rigorous treatment, some related numerical problems would also be solved to make the concepts clearer. Applications of some of the concepts and ideas will also be discussed. Because of the very nature of physics, after going through this course a student will be able to: think analytically and critically , grasp abstract and abstruse concepts and ideas which do not go hand in hand with common sense.
